Auf der Flucht.
Seeking Refuge.
Exhibition at Niederösterreichisches Landesmuseum, AT.
In line with the exhibition’s conceptual design, I contributed 25 maps illustrating the routes of 25 displaced individuals seeking refuge, along with the personal objects they carried on their journeys. The direct printing on coarse wooden panels lends the texts and maps a tactile roughness and unrefined quality, which is a fitting expression given the context. The number of people forced to flee war, conflict, persecution, and intolerable living conditions has reached unprecedented levels worldwide. The Niederösterreichisches Landesmuseum has conceived a special exhibition focusing on objects that refugees took with them, items that held particular significance or even acquired new meaning during their flight.
These objects of great intangible value offer glimpses not only into the external realities of displacement but also into the physical and emotional ordeals endured by refugees and the lasting memories born from them. The exhibition presents selected stories of flight and displacement from ancient times to the present day.
