The Silence of Sound — Installation at Design Academy Eindhoven
Due to the ubiquity of headphones in our day and age more and more people are missing out on the true sounds of their surroundings, instead filling their senses by choice with a piece of music or a voice in their ear. I decided to give back the sounds these people are missing by creating a physical object on which they can hear what they might have missed.
I recorded the sounds of 8 different places in Utrecht in binaural sound and turned them into a vinyl record, which forces the listener to interact with it and which can’t be listened to on the go or in a
rush. This record is dedicated to 8 people from 8 different places in Utrecht, to show them what they could experience if they put down their headphones for a moment.
